Give Your Body’s Defence Department a Boost!

Give Your Body’s Defence Department a Boost!

Our bodies are constantly being stressed by our complex and often harmful environments. There’s no getting around it. But we’re all aware of the fantastic defence system in place to protect us. In fact, we owe quite a lot to our Immune system for what it does.

The following are a few natural ways to support your Immune system and help it perform at its best. We know that eating poorly and neglecting our sleep weakens the Immune system and makes us vulnerable to being run down. Fortunately, there’s a lot we can do to give this system of organs, tissues and cells a helping hand.

Focus on Digestion

Much of our immune system lives in the intestines. It’s where all of the beneficial bacteria live. In fact, these microorganisms outnumber the cells of our bodies 10:1 and, as a group, their genes outnumber ours 100:1.1. These bacteria produce hormones that direct fat storage; regulate intestinal physiology, development and function; “train” the immune system, and support the growth of healthy gut bacteria.

Recruit the Troops

To help support these bacteria, you can start by eating fermented, bacteria (probiotic)-rich foods. During fermentation, food is exposed to bacteria and yeasts through the air. Some of these beneficial micro-organisms can thrive in our gut, favouring a healthy population of gut bacteria and helping us process many of the foods we eat. Yoghurt, sauerkraut and kim chi, a Korean vegetable dish, are all high in healthy bacteria.

Kefir is a fermented drink that can be made from milk, water, grains or coconut water. And, apple cider vinegar is made from fermented apples. These will introduce beneficial enzymes, probiotics, and amino acids and may support a healthy Immune system.

Mannatech has been in the forefront of developing supplements that support GI tract and Immune system health. Ambrotose® complex, launched in 1996, was a prebiotic supplement ahead of its time.* Both Ambrotose complex and Advanced Ambrotose powder have been shown, in in vitro studies using human colonic bacteria, to exert positive prebiotic effects.*1 GI-ProBalance™ slimsticks (rich in prebiotics and probiotics) were formulated to work together to enhance the effectiveness of Ambrotose products.*

Mushroom, to make your immunity BOOM!

Consuming mushrooms is a great way to boost immunity for they are rich in certain polysaccharides. In a 2010 study published in BMC Nutrition Journal, Mannatech scientists found that a large body of literature suggests that certain polysaccharides from fungi and plants can elicit diverse immunomodulatory effects in humans who are healthy or have health conditions.

Work Out

In addition to keeping you in shape and healthy, exercising can boost your Immune system. When you exercise regularly, your heart gets stronger, your lungs are better able to handle oxygen, your muscles get stronger, and your immune system is better able to do its job. Meditation is powerful as well for boosting immunity. When you focus in meditation, you allow your body to relax and create feelings of well-being.

Salute to Sleep

The more all-nighters you pull, the more likely you are to suppress your immune system. The number of hours of sleep someone needs depends on their age. Someone may feel great after getting seven hours of sleep a night, while another person may need nine. Healthy adults usually need seven to eight hours of sleep a night.

Keep it Strong

You can do a lot to help support your immune system. The ideas above are a great way to start. After all, your immune system does a lot for you already. Keep this amazing protection mechanism functioning at its best and you’ll really feel the difference.
